About

Welcome to my blog. My name is Jess. I am first and foremost a follower of Jesus and grateful for the new life I have in Him. I live in Washington D.C. with my amazing husband and the most adorable toddler you will ever see.

If you knew me well back in high school or college, you might be somewhat shocked at the life I currently live. With two college degrees, I was supposed to be single, running an organization, and undomesticated at the age of 27. Instead, I’m a stay-at-home mom who loves to cook, decorate, sew, and dress my son up in cute clothes. As I write this I’m butchering a chicken and making my own stock for the first time (which turned out pretty successful, I might add). Some days I even shock myself. My life is not at all what I pictured it to be, but I love it.

I really enjoy trying new things, and every time I try out a new love, I think I’m going to master it (and by master, I mean win a reality TV show). My love for cooking started after I got married, and by necessity, I had to learn. I try out a new recipe a couple times a week, just because its fun for me. I figure, since I have to feed my family, I might as well keep it interesting. I started sewing after my obsession with a  reality show convinced me I could start my own clothing line. Let’s just say that that dream died pretty fast. I do love to sew but I’m pretty much on the pillows, hems and curtains level. I think my love for decorating and design came from my mom, though she would probably beg to differ. She was rearranging the furniture in our house every other week. I learned that if you can’t get new stuff, just put it in a different place -and it feels new. Although I would argue I might have a real shot at winning a design show, ain’t no body got time to decorate someone else’s house.

The truth is, I don’t want to be a master of all those things, just the aspects I like most. I love cooking but I don’t plan on learning how to make lobster (gross). I really love design and decorating but my complete lack of math skills and distain for measuring will keep me from putting 17 holes in anyone’s walls but my own. So this blog is about all the things I like to love. And a little of everything in between. Maybe it will inspire you to try something new.

  7. Hello Jessica. I too found your blog via your husband’s builttobrag site. Yes, I read your post and couldn’t agree with you more regarding the pitfalls of social media sites. Nevertheless, after reading through your site, I’m truly blessed by the candor you’ve shared concerning the realities of life as a woman of God, a wife and mother. Like you, I had “big” dreams for how my life was to play out. (i.e. 42 and single, worldly successful so that I could eat out every night, and adopting children). But GOD, in His sovereignty, had greater and better. Married at 24 in 1998, mother of four sons, and, according to my family, a “good” cook :-). “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purposes of the LORD that will stand” Proverbs 19:21. Let God be true and every man a liar. Be blessed.
